We UYD Nation seem to be into the same shit. You guys are into laughing, having a good time, makin’ shit and music same as me.

So I was curious what you guys were listening to recently that you could recommend. Some of this isn’t new, just stuff on my ipod shuffle that I think you’d like that I’m into lately. I’ll start off:

The Field: Yesterday and Today.
This is Down Tempo, pretty trancy, very good beats… good music to listen to while you’re doing something on the computer and you want to feel like what you’re doin’ is super important and will likely save the world.

MSTRKRFT: Fist of God.
Pretty good follow up to their first album. Electro House. Good music to listen to on the ride home from work. or Whilst running. Away from the cops.

Silversun Pickups: Carnavas
Good album, not that new…. sounds like Smashing Pumpkins. Good music to drive around in the sun with, go get a frosty and a bag of shrooms. What?

The Black Keys: Attack and Release
Another good album to slap a hooker, shoot up a bank and run away from cops to. Or, just sit there doing work at your desk at work.

Wilco: the Album (The new one)
If I ever want to be reminded that I battle depression on a regular basis and spend times just sitting at my desk missing random people from my life, I listen to Wilco. There’s times when it’s ok to tap into that shit. Like today.

Hope you enjoy. I love hearing about music people are into. If you’re ever in the burgh, hit me up and we’ll go record shopping.

I’m not afraid of putting on a little Smell Well.

Not new, but new to me…just started listening to Beirut and really enjoying them.  Remind me a little of Sufjan and Neutral Milk Hotel.  Favorite songs so far are Scenic World and Elephant Gun.

Vegan loads to the front of the line.

Ok here’s one. This album is funny as shit. But the beats are spot on. Don’t let the fun factor fool you, these guys are rockers! The band is called Skunkweed and the albumis “Chunky Butt Funky”. Every song is ducking great. They are from San Antonio.

I still really like Cross Canadian Ragweed. That play pretty tight country rock.

Umm I could go on but what’s the use

I’ll name two that I really like. The first is a Venezuelan electronica artist named Nuuro. He’s also got tons of music available for free download if you like him.

Nuuro’s Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/nuuro

The other one is a mildly depressing rock-electronica group called Take No Damage.

The new mewithoutyou is so weird. I used to work with a couple of those guys, they started off straight metal core. Their first record is one of my favorites of all time. Zao always brings it.

Lately I’ve been listening to

The Hold Steady - Like bruce if bruce weren’t a total knob and did a lot of heroin.

16 Horsepower - super weird awesome creepy gothy pseudo alt-country from Denver. I don’t know how this band isn’t more popular.

Lucero - altcountry that is just really awesome

Wu-Tang meets the indie culture instrumentals - I have been listening to this album CONSTANTLY this past month. The non-instrumentals version is ok, but this one is really really great.

Tv on the Radio - I like them more everytime I hear them. any of their albums, really.

insect warfare - ok I don’t know why I put this, none of you will like it, but it is one of the best grind albums in recent years.

Not so much new, but if you’re looking for something original get Buck 65’s “Secret House Against the World,” “Square,” and “This Right Here is Buck 65” (a best of).  I listened to his other stuff, but IMO those 3 albums are the way to go.

one of my fav songs if you wanna sample

I worked with them at Circuit City. Greg was in the operation then if I remember correctly. I have a really good memory though, creepily good. The other guy was in mwy at the time, his name was…. i dont remember. Ray? He’s not in the band anymore.

I think I have one of their old old old songs on a compilation cd somewhere, i’m really going to try to find that now/

i’ve heard some of their ‘blood enough for us all EP’ and it was bad. then i heard the ep “i never said i was brave” and that was bad too.

i heard a song once where aaron was rapping on it. it was laughibly terrible.

BUT, they’re my favorite band overall, and i don’t think that anyone has better lyrics than Aaron Weiss, living or dead. they blow me away every time i listen to them and i highly recommend their album Catch For Us The Foxes over the rest of their stuff. although, all their full lengths are amazing.

True.  We also like when people tell us we’re hot, or some variant of that…like beautiful, lovely, or load-bustingly hot.

I didn’t think Canadian music got a fair chance in the recent podcasts so here is my contribution. These are mostly relatively small and local artists so you might not have heard of them.

Do Make Say Think - Definitely one of my favourites right now. A Toronto instrumental almost post-rock band that is the best for putting on in the background while trying to relax. Same record label as Godspeed You! Black Emperor although not really similar. Most of them are members in Broken Social Scene.
Myspace
Youtube

Caribou - This guy grew up in my hometown that started very electronic but now is incorporating more people/actual instruments into his group. Used to be known as Manitoba.
Myspace
Youtube
A Crazy video of them playing on the streets of Paris in the dark.

Lioness - A band that is relatively new that has the bass player and drummer of Controller.Controller so it has a similar style but different singer.
Youtube

Woodhands - One band I just found out about a week ago when they played in my city. Pretty good electronic pop.
Myspace

Kid Koala - I don’t think this turntablist from Montreal is as obscure as the other groups but more people should listen to him. His music is made from a ton of different samples that gives it a very distinct sound. Some may not like it, but I sure do.
Fender Bender
Skanky Panky
This entire series is just great.

I also have to say that Johnathan’s music music choices in the intros and outros are fantastic and I’ve bought a lot of music because of him.
