Man, I went out looking for that Aooini shit just now, couldn’t find it. Settled for somethings less. I give up.

Ao oni is the beer you have to find/know where to get it/buy it online…
I’m a fan of pale ale’s and the oni has a dry and very bitter hoppy punch. Not to mention it’s 7%!
Sounds/looks awresome. I’ve got another place in mind where they might have it. They have this, anyway:

Not Indian, not all that pale, but it’s sweet and feels more nutritious than my daily swill

Ahh, but you see, I believe it’s the same maker! And Yona Yona, is not only a wonderful brew, but an Indian Pale Ale (if you can read Japanese)... Not only an award winner, but a bloody good beer! Long live nagano’s clean water!
Yeah man, the Yona stuff is top notch. I couldn’t stop talking about it after I had it the first time.
I’m pretty much only going with Sapporo now as Asahi Super Dry gets way too warm way too quick.
Also, lately Zima is always good for a cheap laugh.

is being an american living in japan cool or not cool?
ComputerSet would tell you no. I hear Osaka is cool. I have a Japanese friend who is from there. That being said, she lives here now, and is not moving back.

That’s where I live, and it’s very cool. If you’re really thinking about coming over, sign up for the JET program. They may put you out in the sticks, but the pay is amazing and there’s usually a sizely mixed bag of other foreigners cool, douche, drunk and otherwise wherever you end up.

Is it true in Osaka people love to eat good food and drink beer? Like, non-stop?
I saw that Anthony Bourdain show in Osaka. That looked like fun. Do you know those two dudes?
What is JET?
Don’t know Anthony Bourdoonzies, but yes, this is a food and drink town. It’s kind of like the Chicago of Japan. The JET Programme is run by the Ministry of Education (part of the government) and brings native English speakers from all over to Japan to teach in the public schools. It’s kinda prestigious and sweet. You’ll be a celebrity at your elementary/junior/high school and an icon of your culture. You usually teach alongside a Japanese English teacher (who’s English ability is only second to their ability as an astrophysicist), so just be cooperative, make good lessons, participate, and unless you’re a peed, there’s no reason you can’t stay for five years. That’s the max.
Oh yeah website—you just missed the application deadline for this year, but it7ll give you a year to prepare a dope resume and reason why you would be a good teacher, and also imagine letting go luxuries like Taco Bell and taco trucks. Tacos are scarce and expensive here.

Y’all are a mother fucker! You scooped me on my own thread! Don’t worry, I have a new drink up my sleeve. I shall return!
Meanwhile, anyone want to place bets on the next Pepsi?
Here are some ideas:
1. Miso
2. Shoyu
3. Kinako
4. Green Tea
5. Ume
Good lookin’ out man. I still have yet to see this in my area yet, but I’ll keep checking.
I still have two bottles of the Shiso stuff which I don’t plan on drinking anytime soon.
On a side note, I’m planning my way out of Japan I think. I find myself longing for the sweet embrace of the USA more and more each day.
Off the island by around March of 2010 I think.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly not bad here at all. I’ve had some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my whole life over here. Usually the work is easy, you can drink in public, it’s very safe, and I’ve traveled to some really great spots.
A lot of these pictures are old and weird but whatevs: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thenationalpool/
I came over here in March of 2008 and after the thrill wore off of everything being new, I noticed that gradually every one that I know here is growing cynical and going home. So, when I come to the forum and I’m also cynical, that’s just how it comes out I suppose.
If you’re thinking about moving here I’d say do it for sure. Take a risk and see what happens.

Haha yeah. Despite being from Maryland, I tend to throw up the West Coast now and again.
I noticed that after I had some money problems earlier this year I had to let my Flickr pro account lapse so there are about 700 more pictures that don’t show up now. Most of those pics are from when I took a trip with my buddy Rory to Osaka, Hiroshima, Himeji, and eventually down to Fukuoka all during the Christmas break. Incredible times and the train ticket was only about $100 (Seishun Juhachi Kippu).
It looks weird now, but we had a running joke that we would try to look very bored and tired while taking pictures at awesome places.
But, I do need to find a way to cheer up about Japan haha. Lately I tend to do Jah-like rants at parties except I don’t have a podcast and nobody is laughing.

I’m laughing.
Maryland huh? I actually have a couple friends from Maryland here in Cali. I also have a friend out here that grew up in Osaka.
We’re almost brothers ComputerSet.

Brothers indeed.
So, did anybody try the red stuff yet? What did you think? I had it a couple weeks ago and thought that it was pretty good, but I forgot exactly what it tased like.
The new green Kirin beer is pretty good as well. It’s got a light kind of Coors Light taste to it maybe. I’m not sure. Here’s a pic.
