Hm, interesting to compare with MIT Technology Review’s TR50, which lists the 50 most innovative companies in the world. Lots of parallels, no direct overlap, but a fun read. It seem’s Agrivida’s working toward switchgrass, though, which is awesome! “A study at Argonne National Laboratory estimates that a gallon of ethanol produced from kernels of corn in today’s processes provides about 20,000 BTUs more energy than the energy that went into making it. The study projects that using cellulose from switchgrass would triple that net gain, to about 60,000 BTUs per gallon, mostly because little fossil fuel would be used in farming the grass.” <from here
I never understood wind energy.
You ever walk down a city street, and when you get to an alley it feels like you are in a wind tunnel? Why don’t they use that… This is how jets work, force that air through a smaller space before it hits the turbines and it will generate a lot more power. Right?
